(ISEQ: RYA, LSE: RYA, NASDAQ: RYAAY) is an Irish lowcost airline headquartered in Swords, a suburb of Dublin, Ireland, with its main operational bases at Dublin and London Stansted Airports. Ryanair was both the largest European airline by scheduled passengers carried, along with the busiest international airline by passenger numbers.

Ryanair uses over 370 Boeing 737800 aircraft, using a single 737700 used primarily as a charter aircraft, but in addition as a backup plane and for pilot training.[6] The airline was characterised by its own rapid growth, a consequence of the deregulation of the aviation industry in Europe in 1997 and the success of its low cost business model. Ryanair‘s route system serves 34 countries in Europe, Africa (Morocco), and the Middle East (Israel)

In 2015 Ryanair traffic grew by 18% to 106.4m customers while our typical fare dropped to 46, load a 93% load factor and still with no fuel surcharges. We rolled out Year 2 of our Always Getting Better” programme having a committed USA website, the unveiling of our new Consistently Getting Better customer charter, a brand new Ryanair Car Hire service, new cabin interiors with slimline seats, new crew uniforms, and improved inflight menus. Our brand new personalised site contained an improved tailored offerings and My Ryanair” customer registration system enabling even more rapid bookings. We found 7 new bases in Belfast, Berlin, Corfu, Gothenburg, Ibiza, Milan Malpensa and announced full year net profit of €1.24bn, a growth of 43% on the prior year and became the initial airline to carry 100m international passengers in one single year.

ATR42 in 1991

Since its establishment in 1984, Ryanair has grown from a small airline flying the brief journey to London from Waterford into Europe‘s biggest carrier. Of 2013 including over 1,200 pilots. After the rapidly growing airline went public in 1997, the cash raised was used to enlarge the airline right into a panEuropean carrier. Sales have risen from 231 million to €1,, in 1998 843 million in 2003 and €3,013 million in 2010. Similarly net profits have grown from 48 million to 339 million over the same period.
Early years

Ryanair was founded in 1984 as Danren Enterprises by Christopher Ryan, Liam Lonergan (owner of Irish travel agent Club Travel) and Irish businessman Tony Ryan (after whom the firm is named), founder of Guinness Peat Aviation.[9] The airline was shortly thereafter renamed Ryanair and began operations in 1985 with a 15seat Embraer Bandeirante turboprop aircraft, flying between Waterford and Gatwick Airport with all the purpose of breaking the duopoly on LondonIreland flights at that time, held by British Airways and Aer Lingus.

In 1986, the business added a second path flying around Dublin–Luton in direct competition together with the Aer Lingus / British Airways duopoly for the first time. Under partial EU deregulation, airlines could begin new international intraEU services, as long as at least one of the two authorities gave acceptance (the so called doubledisapproval regime). Britain, under Margaret Thatcher‘s deregulating Conservative authorities, approved the service, although the Irish authorities at the time refused its acceptance, to protect Aer Lingus. With two courses and two airplanes, the fledgling airline carried 82,000 passengers in one year.

In 1986 the managers of Ryanair took an 85% stake in London European Airways, from 1987 this provided a connection with all the Luton Ryanair service onward to Amsterdam and Brussels.[12] In 1988 London European worked as Ryanair Europe and afterwards began to operate charter services. Ryanair passenger numbers continued to grow, but the airline typically ran at a loss and, by 1991, was such as the closure of Ryanair Europe/London European in need of restructuring. Michael O’Leary was charged with all the job of making the airline profitable. O’Leary Immediately decided that the best technique for profitability was low fares, quick turnaround times for aircraft, no frills and no business class, together with controlling just one model of aircraft. In 1989, a Short Sandringham was operated with Ryanair sponsorship titles but never flew revenuegenerating services for the airline.

O’Leary returned at that time ruled by national carriers, which were subsidised to various degrees by their parent states, from a call to Southwest Airlines convinced that Ryanair could make tremendous inroads into the European air market. He competed together with the leading airlines by providing a no-frills, low-cost service. Flights were scheduled into regional airports, which offered lower landing and handling charges than bigger established international airports. O’Leary as Chief Executive took part where he helped out with baggage handling on Ryanair flights at Dublin Airport. Following the consistent pursuance of its low cost business model, by 1995, Ryanair celebrated its 10th birthday by carrying 2.25 million passengers
